Everyone, except
holders of Australian and New Zealand passports, requires a visa before entering
Australia. Students wanting to study at ACE can apply for one of 3 main types
of visa:
Tourist Visa
A Tourist Visa allows visitors to Australia to spend up to 6 months in
the country. A Tourist Visa is appropriate for students who wish to study
in Australia for a maximum of 12 weeks. A Tourist Visa cannot be extended
in Australia.
Student Visa
A Student Visa is required for all students who want to spend more than
12 weeks studying in Australia. Australia is one of the only countries in
the world which allows Student Visa holders to work [for a maximum of 20 hours
per week] while they are studying. If you hold a Student Visa and wish to
work in Australia, you must apply for authorisation when you arrive in Australia.
Working Holiday
Maker Visa
Australia has a 'Working Holiday' arrangement with the United Kingdom,
Candada, Japan, Ireland, The Netherlands, Japan, Korea, Malta and Germany.
The Working Holiday Visa is a 12-month visa which allows overseas visitors
to Australia to do casual work while they are travelling around Australia.
You can study for a maximum of 17 weeks on a Working Holiday Maker visa. Applicants
for this type of visa must be between 18-30 years old.
